ACTION ALERT – Tell Stephen Harper: Canada's communities are not for sale
Canada and the European Union are negotiating a new Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) which they hope to sign by the end of this year. This is a big deal for Canadians.
An eighth round of CETA talks will take place in Brussels this July 11-15. It's been called a "critical" round by Canada's lead negotiator because finally provincial-territorial offers on procurement, services and investment will be exchanged and bargained away!
If CETA is signed it will:
The Council of Canadians and Canadian Union of Public Employees are currently touring Canada to highlight the dangers of this proposed deal and to say that Canadian communities are not for sale.
Let’s work together to stop this deal. CETA has not yet been signed. There is still time to stop it. Here’s what you can do:
-
Organize a fight back committee to challenge CETA in your community
(see the Trade Justice Network website » for a list of organizations you can turn to for help in your community)
-
Call your municipal councillor and tell him/her you want your city or town to take a stand
-
Ask your city council to pass a resolution to keep cities out of CETA
-
Lobby your provincial and federal politicians about the impact of CETA on health care
-
Help spread the word – talk to your colleagues, friends and neighbours
