On March 19, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Council of the Americas will hold an "off-the-record debriefing" on the February 27 meeting of SPP ministers and North American Competitiveness Council member CEOs in Los Cabos, Mexico.
The 1.5-hour meeting, which will happen in Washington, D.C. later this month, "will include members of the NACC Executive Committee and Advisory Committee and private sector representatives with a stake in the process."
The Council of the Americas and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce jointly represent the U.S. secretariat of the NACC, which is represented in Canada by the Canadian Council of Chief Executives.
Since 2005, this elite and relatively small corporate sector of North American society has been the only "stakeholder" consulted in the SPP process, although we are all affected by its recommendations for North American security and economic integration.
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez will be at the Washington meeting on March 19, which "is limited to companies, sectoral associations, local chambers of commerce, and stakeholders."
