Council of Canadians has serious concerns with scope and process of Canada-EU trade negotiations
Maude Barlow, national chairperson of the Council of Canadians, is available for comment today and this week on the second round of trade negotiations between Canada and the European Union toward a Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, which take place in Brussels, Belgium from January 18 to 22.
The Council of Canadians has been demanding transparency in the negotiations since they were announced in late 2008. The proposed deal will go further than NAFTA in its scope, with huge impacts on Canadian public services and public policy down to the municipal level. The organization is demanding public consultations and full disclosure from the Canadian and European parliaments on what they hope to achieve through these talks.
