Stop Ford from gutting our Conservation Authorities

Thank you to everyone who sent a letter demanding that the Ford government cancel its plans to reduce the power and responsibility of Ontario’s Conservation Authorities. Unfortunately, Ontario’s Budget Measures Act (Bill 229) was passed on December 9, 2020 with Schedule 6 intact. Stay tuned for an update.

Stop the attack on Conservation Authorities

The proposal to reduce the power and responsibility of Ontario’s Conservation Authorities is irresponsible and has the potential to be very dangerous.

I’m writing today to ask you to please remove section 6 of Bill 229 in its entirety before it is passed. The changes proposed in Section 6 will strip the powers that our Conservation Authorities have used to protect our communities for decades.

We are already seeing increased flooding and droughts due to the climate crisis and these cuts are certain to have tremendous impacts in our near future. We need our Conservation Authorities to protect us and our environment from political whims.

Gutting our Conservation Authorities is short-sighted and irresponsible. Wealthy developers already have too much power and influence — this is not the time to give them free reign.
