ACTION ALERT: Oppose GM salmon

Food and Water Watch states, “Genetically engineered salmon are on a fast track to being the first GE Animal approved for human consumption. The US Food and Drug Administration is trying to approve GE salmon as a new animal drug, but the truth is U.S. Food agencies don’t have a way to fully evaluate the impacts of GE salmon on human health or the environment. Worst of all, if these GE salmon are introduced into our food system, they won’t be labeled, so consumers won’t know what they’re buying.”

They have started a petition opposing GE salmon. They have collected 18,220 signatures and are aiming for 25,000. To add your name to the petition that goes to US President Barack Obama and FDA officials, please go to http://www.change.org/foodandwaterwatch/petitions/view/stop_genetically_engineered_salmon_from_reaching_your_plate.

The Council of Canadians attended recent US FDA hearings on GE/GM salmon. For those blogs, please go to http://canadians.org/search/node/aquabounty.

We have also signed the organizational petition organized by the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network at http://www.cban.ca/Resources/Topics/GE-Fish/Sign-your-organization-s-objection-to-GE-fish.
