Last week the South Shore chapter and the Ecology Action Centre screened “Burned: Are Trees the New Coal?” and found the crowd was eager to take action on forestry issues in Nova Scotia.
Burned is a new documentary covering the recent rise of the global biomass industry and its impacts on our forests and the atmosphere. Learn more about the film here.
A small working group has formed around forestry issues following this screening, and a few people are meeting to ‘dig in ‘ a little deeper and inform themselves in preparation for conversations with others. If you would like to be a part of the local action, please contact southshore.coc@gmail.com
If you’d like to write a letter to your MLA about forestry issues in Nova Scotia please find our draft letter here, including a suggested list of representatives who should receive it.
If you’d like to meet with your MLA please let the South Shore chapter know so you can coordinate. Some are already organizing a meeting with MLA Mark Furey. It would be great to meet with MLA Suzanne Lohnes-Croft and others as well.
Finally, here is a great little video shared with us by the Ecology Action Centre about the basic issues with biomass energy production.
