Metro News reports that, “The Olympic crowds should be encouraged to drink tap water, say the Council of Canadians and one of the country’s biggest unions (CUPE).”
“Yesterday they launched a campaign in downtown Vancouver to promote the city’s drinking water over the Dasani line of bottled water being sold by official Games sponsor Coca-Cola.”
“’We want to let the public know that tap water is more environmentally friendly and easier on the pocket as well,’ said Harjap Grewal, spokesperson for the Council of Canadians.”

Additionally, The Province reports today that, “The Canada Pavilion tent was not made in Canada, but rather manufactured in Germany by the Losberger Group and hastily assembled for the Games.”
“Scott Harris of the Council of Canadians, an independent citizens’ group, said the issue is not just about national pride, but jobs and economic benefits. ‘When something is sourced to another country, which could be made in Canada, a lot of benefits end up going overseas.Germany is definitely a long way to go to bring a tent which could be made here,’ said Harris. ‘As you start outsourcing, down the line your ability to have oversight diminishes on things like budgets,’ he said.”
“Tim Warmington of the Heritage Ministry, which is responsible for the Canada Pavilion, said in a statement: ‘As a trading nation, Canada believes that free and open markets are the best way to ensure the global economy can rebound from this period of instability,’ he said.”
