The Council of Canadians London chapter supports the Londoners for Door to Door postal delivery campaign. That mobilization has canvassed neighbourhoods in that southern Ontario city on Saturday January 17 and Sunday January 25. As noted in the promotion for these canvasses, “All are welcome and encouraged to join us as we inform Londoners about what is happening and what they can do to stop Canada Post and Harper from taking away this vital service. We will be joining many postal workers, who need our support. Canada Post belongs to all of us, and together we can save it!”
They highlight, “We are a group of concerned residents from London and the surrounding area who are incensed that Canada Post and the Harper government would even consider stopping door to door delivery of our mail! We are even more angry that we know that our local MPs Susan Truppe and Ed Holder support this plan. Polls consistently show that Canadians support a strong national Postal Service. Despite claims to the contrary, the Postal Service makes money and it belongs to all of us.”
Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow has commented, “This is yet another case of a Harper-driven impoverishment of an essential service. It will negatively affect seniors, people with disabilities and other Canadians who rely on the mail.”
