Although the Moncton chapter has been organizing and active for a little while now, time was never found to organize an official chapter start-up meeting until now! So last evening, over 20 people gathered at the Aberdeen Cafe to have the official start-up, but in an odd twist, also to do a year in review and an AGM!
Peter Dauphinee and Pamela Ross have been the backbone of the chapter over this past while, and along with several other folks along the way have been organizing events on a variety of issues, and standing in solidarity with indigenous struggles both at Elsipogtog and at the Moncton courthouse.
Many who attended last night have already been working with the chapter, and some attended for the first time. But everyone had ideas and concerns to bring to the table in the hopes that together they can play a positive role in their community of Greater Moncton and beyond.
Democracy, media control in New Brunswick and forestry issues were just some of the topics raised for the chapter to work on. Shale gas has and will continue to be a main focus of their work as well, but clearly there is no shortage of issues to tackle in Moncton and New Brunswick…
A follow-up meeting has been set for Monday 17 July, 7pm. For more information on how you can become involved with the chapter and/or for more information on the next meeting, please reach out to the new chapter contact.
Thanks for having me and I look forward to continued great work from and with the Moncton Chapter!
