NEWS: ACFN ‘questions of constitutional law have to be addressed’, says Deranger

“Our lawyers are reviewing the document to determine our recourse, but we have always been prepared to take this to the Alberta courts if necessary. We are fully committed to be part of the hearing process, but we also feel our questions of constitutional law have to be addressed.” – Eriel Deranger, communications co-ordinator for the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, in response to the Joint Review Panel ruling that it does not have the jurisdiction to consider an ACFN constitutional challenge against Shell’s Jackpine tar sands mine expansion.
