NEWS: Activists dismantle SFPR protest camp

The Delta Optimist reports, “Community and environmental activists who set up a protest camp (two weeks ago on) April 22 to block the South Fraser Perimeter Road construction dismantled the camp near River Road Thursday.”

“Bob Ages, a Delta resident and Council of Canadians national board member, told the Optimist that road builders FTG Constructors delivered a letter Wednesday to the camp telling protesters to vacate within 24 hours or they would be served with an injunction.”

“‘We had a very thorough discussion last night around a circle about the pros and cons and we decided it was not to our advantage to play on their ground of courts, injunctions and legal fees,’ he said Thursday.”

“The tent camp included local residents and activists from StopThePave.org, Council of Canadians chapters, the Critical Criminology Working Group at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and others.”

“Ages said they plan to continue the public battle against the $1 billion highway project in others ways, including a community meeting.”
