
Belgium is also at war in Afghanistan.
CBC reports that, “A Canadian soldier, Sapper Brian Collier, was killed by a bomb in Afghanistan Tuesday. …Collier, 24, was born in Toronto and raised in Bradford, Ontario.”
“The latest death brings to 151 the total number of Canadian soldiers who have died as part of the Afghan mission since it began in 2002,” with numerous more affected with physical injuries and mental traumas.
According to Agence France Presse, as of last Friday, 302 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan this year. In 2009, 520 foreign soldiers were killed in this war.
According to a United Nations report, 2,412 Afghan civilians were killed and 3,566 were wounded in 2009. NATO- and American-led coalition and Afghan government forces were responsible for at least 596 of these Afghan civilian deaths, mostly by air strikes.
