Peterborough chapter activist Roy Brady.
The Council of Canadians Peterborough chapter is sponsoring four films at the 11th annual ReFrame International Film Festival this weekend.
Chapter activist Roy Brady tells us, “Our chapter is co-sponsoring ‘This Changes Everything’ for this Sunday, 12 pm. Also we assisted the booking of ‘Fractured Land’, which became the weekend feature film this weekend. Also, we are sole sponsors for ‘Kettle’ (G-20 in Toronto) and Tilco Striker (a strategic victory in the 60’s for women strikers and challenging the corporate use of injunctions).”
Tilco Striker will be shown on Jan. 30 at 10 am, Fractured Land on Jan. 30 at 7:30 pm, and both This Changes Everything and Kettle will be shown on Jan. 31 at 12 pm.
ReFrame’s vision is “to build strong, sustainable, and engaged community audiences for film and art that explore and document issues of human rights and social justice, from the local to the global; to use film and art to provide educational opportunities and encourage activism and thoughtful debate.”
The Peterborough Examiner has reported, “Each January, downtown Peterborough kicks off the new year with this high-quality, community-oriented, entertaining, and educational film festival. This year ReFrame runs from Friday, Jan. 29 through Sunday, Jan. 31, at venues throughout the downtown core of Peterborough. …In today’s society, we have become increasingly aware of, and rightfully concerned about, climate change and environmental degradation. It is important to know how our world is changing and what we can do to make it a better place for future generations.”
Two days after the ReFrame the Peterborough chapter will be co-sponsoring a ‘Citizen’s Climate Forum – localizing the Leap Manifesto’. That event, that will build from the screening of ‘This Changes Everything’ at the film festival, will take place on Feb. 2 at 7 pm at Trinity United Church.
