Remembering Veronica Swan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Veronica Swan, one of the original members of the Medicine Hat Chapter and a long-time supporter of the Council of Canadians.

Below is a note from her daughter, Patricia Swan:

“My mother, Veronica Swan, passed away on July 25, 2023, at the age of 93.  She was a proud and devoted member of The Council of Canadians.  She believed in a better Canada and was a great admirer of Maude Barlow, reading everything she wrote! Veronica was an activist and wasn’t shy about writing letters to local, provincial, and national leaders advocating for communities in need and for care of the environment. She was passionate about grassroots collective action working together against corporate power. Before suffering from dementia, she and my dad, J. Gretton Swan, advocated for clean water for all, especially Indigenous peoples. The Swan family are very touched by The Council of Canadians recognizing her story.

We offer our condolences to Veronica’s family and friends and honour her life, work, and commitment to building a better world.
