Yesterday, the municipal council in Tiny Township voted unanimously to recommend to Simcoe County council to “support the closing and future development of Site 41” and that Simcoe County ask the province to revoke the certificate of approval for Site 41.
It is expected that Simcoe County council will vote on a resolution to shut down the controversial Site 41 landfill at its next meeting on September 22.
The Midland Mirror reported yesterday that, “Midland Mayor Jim Downer told The Mirror he was delighted when the (one-year) moratorium was approved. ‘I hope that on Sept. 22, we will vote to eliminate the dump all together,’ he said. ‘I will support shutting down Site 41 for good.’”
