In the news
The Prince Albert Herald reports, “In recognition of World Water Day, the Prince Albert chapter of the Council of Canadians set out to learn more about Prince Albert’s water situation. In advance of an event recognizing the day, on Thursday, a letter was sent to Mayor Jim Scarrow inquiring about Prince Albert’s water supply situation. During Thursday’s event at the John M. Cuelenaere Library, Council of Canadians member Jim Bahr read and responded to these answers. …In other Council of Canadians news, member Rick Sawa read from a letter from Premier Brad Wall regarding the possibility of a nuclear waste repository being built in Saskatchewan. ‘We have no intention of becoming a project developer of a nuclear waste management facility,’ the letter reads. ‘While our government respects the fact that certain communities are exploring the possibility of such development, it is not our impression that there exists broad-based provincial support… Therefore such a repository is not a priority for our government.'”
And Toronto’s NOW magazine reports, “It’s a basic life ingredient, but water gets no respect, even though we’re sitting on the edge of a fresh water system that’s the envy of the world. The T.O. chapter of the Council of Canadians hosts Shared Water, Shared Legacy, Saturday (March 24), a forum discussing the Melancthon mega-quarry, water privatization, First Nations water issues, the Great Lakes and more. 10 am to 4 pm. Pwyc. United Steelworkers Hall, 25 Cecil. torontochapter@gmail.com.”
