UPDATE: The Council begins its protest at the World Water Congress

Council of Canadians activists have started our protest of the World Water Congress in Montreal this morning.

We have unfurled a 9-foot by 26-foot blue banner outside the Palais des congress de Montreal with the words ‘Public Water Is A Human Right’ in both French and English. We are handing out leaflets to passersby and to delegates as they enter the Palais.

The banner’s dimensions are in relation to the water crisis. Each foot of the width of the banner represents 100 million people worldwide who lack access to clean drinking water, each foot of the length represents the 100 million who lack access to adequate sanitation.

The media has been very interested in this story. A Canadian Press report has run in many newspapers across Canada (including the Metro in Montreal and CTV.ca) and national water campaigner Meera Karunananthan has done interviews with CBC Radio and RDI this morning.
