‘March Against Monsanto’ protests were held in 52 countries and 436 cities yesterday.

The Digital Journal reports, “Toronto did its bit with around 2,000-3,000 people protesting in the streets against GMOs in general, and Monsanto in particular.” CTV adds, “The Montreal turnout was an impressive 500 to 600 demonstrators, according to a CTV Montreal reporter, a good turnout for a nippy, wet May afternoon.” Protests happened in numerous other cities, with news stories noting Vancouver, Comox Valley, Prince George, Abbotsford, Calgary, and Kitchener.

The Council of Canadians Mid-Island, Winnipeg, Brant County, Simcoe Region, Thunder Bay, London, and Guelph chapters (and most likely other chapters too) participated in this March Against Monsanto.

In 2011, Health Canada said that it wouldn’t call for mandatory labelling unless it received information that there’s a health concern.
