UPDATE: Council of Canadians table at Ottawa Folk Festival

The Ottawa Folk Festival has gone bottled water free!

(Our April 2009 media release on this is at http://canadians.org/media/water/2009/17-Apr-09.html.)

This past Friday night Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow spoke to an enthusiastic audience of 1,000 festival-goers.

And over this weekend, the Council of Canadians has had an information and ‘water hydration station’ tent at the folk festival to promote our water campaign.

Many people came by to fill their stainless steel water containers, pick-up buttons, stickers and fact sheets, share stories, ask questions, and have their picture taken for our on-line tap water gallery.

Our tap water gallery is at http://canadians.org/water/issues/Blue_Communities/gallery.html.

A few musicians also came by our tent, including a member of the group Asani that has a new CD with the song ‘Boil Water Advisory’ on it. As she played on stage she wore her ‘Water is a human right’ button.

Over the weekend, the table was staffed by Meera Karunananthan and Aneel Suresh, Matthew Ramsden, Jamian Logue, Helene Bertrand, Pat Taylor, Julian Taylor-Patterson and me.

The Ottawa Folk Festival joins the Mariposa folk festival in Orillia, the Blue Skies music festival in Clarendon, and other festivals and gatherings across the country that have gone bottled water free. More on Blue Skies at http://canadians.org/campaignblog/?p=1578.

It’s been fun to do this weekend what many chapters do on a regular basis.
