The Council of Canadians Vancouver chapter participates in last night’s Toxic Tour.
Last night a ‘Toxic Tour’ march took place to ‘expose Vancouver-based mining companies’.
The Mining Justice Alliance event was endorsed by the Council of Canadians, Greenpeace, Idle No More Vancouver, Llh Lin Liyin Grassroots Wetsuwet’en, Kairos Metro Vancouver, No One Is Illegal, Occupy Vancouver, Rising Tide, Wirikuta Vancouver Alliance, the National Roundtable of El Salvador on Metallic Mining, and many other groups.
The tour started at the Goldcorp SFU Centre for the Arts, and stops included the Pacific Rim office on Howe Street, as well as the offices of MAG Silver Corp, Compliance Coal, Imperial Metals, Eldorado Gold, China Gold, Barrick Gold, Tahoe Resources, and Taseko. The Toxic Tour march ended at the BC Mining Week’s Opening Gala Event at Canada Place. The march also featured dance performances, street theatre, art, testimonies from communities impacted by mining, and video footage.
