The Council of Canadians is speaking against investor-state trade disciplines this morning, the type that led to the $130 million payment to AbitibiBowater by the Harper government for the Newfoundland government’s reclaiming of its timber and water rights (and expropriation of company assets with fair compensation promised) after the company closed down its long-standing operations in that province.
Board member and trade lawyer Steven Shrybman has just started his comments to the parliamentary committee on international trade.
