UPDATE: Harper challenged on prorogation in Toronto

With less than 24 hours notice, more than 100 people gathered this afternoon to voice their opposition to prorogation as the prime minister and his motorcade arrived near Yonge and Wellington streets for his address to the CD Howe Institute.

The Council of Canadians (Dylan Penner, Mark Calzavara, Carleen Pickard, and myself) joined the vocal protest.

More than 40 rallies are scheduled to take place this Saturday against Stephen Harper’s prorogation of Parliament, including one at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto. Council chapters across Canada will be participating in many of these rallies. Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow will be speaking at the rally in Ottawa.

For more information on the rallies – and to join the Facebook page calling on all MPs to return to work on January 25 – go to www.canadians.org/events.
