As the Cancun climate conference appears about to conclude in failure, a man holding a protest sign near the building where the negotiations are taking place was detained and thrown into a bus by uniformed United Nations Security officers here.
A (Reuters) news photographer taking his picture was then forcibly detained and pushed on to the bus.
The media was enraged by this and took to the street and blocked the bus from departing for several tense minutes.
Another media person filming the bus leaving had his badge ripped off his neck by security for not moving quickly enough.
We have heard that its extraordinarily unusual for UN Security to arrest anyone, and, of course, a major violation to arrest a news journalist.
Prior to this a number of young people were also arrested near the Moon Palace by UN Security for exceeding the time allowed for their peaceful protest.
More soon.
