The Council of Canadians is helping to organize ‘Protecting Our Communities: A Conference on Shale Gas and Fracking’ this Saturday December 3 in Truro, Nova Scotia. The day will include a keynote address by Cornell University professor Tony Ingraffea and Alberta anti-fracking activist Jessica Ernst, and includes a series of workshops and discussions.
We are working with NOFRAC on this conference. The Nova Scotia Fracking Resource and Action Coalition (NOFRAC) has member groups including the Conservation Council of New Brunswick, Ecology Action Centre, the Nova Scotia Environment Network, and the Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter. As noted on their website, “NOFRAC believes that Nova Scotia should ban the development of shale gas and hydraulic fracturing, or, at the very least, enact a moratorium on shale gas development and hydraulic fracturing for hydrocarbons for a minimum of 10 years.”
The conference fee is a suggested donation of $10, or pay what you can. A buffet lunch and snacks will be provided.
