As we approach November 30 and the tenth anniversary of the popular mobilization against the World Trade Organization in Seattle, I wanted to note that the Council of Canadians will be marking the occasion in a variety of ways. More on that later, but for now please see these clips of Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow that are part of the special features package for the Stuart Townsend film ‘Battle in Seattle’.
Maude speaks to ‘can protectionism and trade coexist?’ at http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=56250059, and ‘what is the current condition of NAFTA?’ at http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=56250348.
More on the Stuart Townsend film featuring Charlize Theron and Woody Harrelson (and partly filmed in Vancouver) at http://www.myspace.com/battleinseattlemovie. In the actual film, you will see a glimpse of Maude right at the end during the segment on the WTO meeting in Doha, Qatar. The frame that you will see in the film is similar to the photo on page 7 of the Winter 2002 issue of Canadian Perspectives at http://canadians.org/publications/CP/2002/pub-cp-winter2002.pdf.
Some IMC footage from Seattle in 1999 can be seen at http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=2202369630355153756&ei=lgOoSuyyMsKllQfaopSrAw&hl=en#.
