Leading up to the Sinking the Harper Agenda conference and our Annual General Meeting in Nanaimo, I’m currently in Vancouver meeting with local officials and allies.
Yesterday Trade Campaigner Stuart Trew and I met with Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan. Burnaby was Canada’s first Blue Community. We discussed the importance of community/local control of water services and keeping water services in public hands. He stressed concerns about the proposed Public-Private Partnership (P3) for a biofuel facility.
We discussed the potential for water privatization under the Canada-Europe Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, the Canada-China Foreign Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement and other trade issues.
I also met with Burnaby Councillor Sav Dhaliwal about water issues.
More to come.
