WIN! Windsor votes to end fluoridation of drinking water

The Windsor Star reports, “Windsor on Monday joined the growing number of municipalities which have voted to end the decades-old practice of adding fluoride to the water supply. The motion passed 8-3 late Monday night. Opponents were quick to draw on experts, studies and reports to support their contention that Windsor should join the growing number of Canadian communities, including Lakeshore, Tecumseh, Amherstburg, Calgary and Waterloo, that have voted to end fluoridation.”

Council of Canadians Windsor chapter chair Doug Hayes was at Windsor City Hall last night for the five-hour debate on this issue.

Almost a full year ago (on January 21, 2012) we noted in a campaign blog – CBC reports, “Two groups are banding together to try to convince Tecumseh town council to petition the Windsor Utilities Commission to stop fluoridating the water it supplies to the town. …Doug Hayes of the Council of Canadians said he will be there with a representative from the group Fluoride Free Windsor. Hayes lives in Tecumseh and only drinks fluoride-free water. He considers it hazardous to his health. …Hayes said researchers have not found any difference in the teeth of people who drink fluoridated water compared to those who don’t. He said it can actually cause damage to teeth, called dental fluorosis.”
