Over the past fourteen months, the South Shore Chapter of the Council of Canadians has supported the work of South Shore Ceasefire Now. Our two organizations will partner to present the film Where Olive Trees Weep: No One is Free Until We Are All Free, now rescheduled for March 9th.
This documentary film gives background to the current crisis and brings to light the stories of the people that the filmmakers met in their 2022 journey in the occupied West Bank. It offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss, trauma, and the quest for justice. It features Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass.
The film is a call for the end to the occupation in Palestine, equal rights and fair treatment for Palestinian people, and the spreading of healing for all intergenerational cycles of trauma in the region.
Following the film, there will be an opportunity to learn about the work that both organizations are doing, hear about future plans, explore ways to take action, and gather with others for sharing and conversation.
Light refreshments will be available. All are welcome. Admission is free, but we welcome donations. Any money collected beyond our expenses will be sent to an aid organization, selected by South Shore Ceasefire Now.
