Radioactive: The Women of Three Mile Island

Ottawa Not-the-Nuclear-Lobby Week

The national Not-the-Nuclear-Lobby returns to Ottawa from April 29 to May 2, 2024!

Citizen groups from across Canada will meet on Parliament Hill to share important info MPs don’t usually hear about nuclear energy – for example, that building new nuclear reactors will delay climate action.  Against the deep pockets and aggressive lobbying of the nuclear industry, activists from many communities counter with facts and the growing awareness that we need renewables now, not billion-dollar pipe dreams.

Film screening Radioactive: The Women of Three Mile Island

This stunning award-winning film asks the important question: what does it mean to live with nuclear energy? First-time filmmaker Heidi Hutner answers this question with solid research and interviews with scientists, engineers, whistleblowers, physicians, and most importantly with the victims themselves. Pay what you can. Co-hosts: Council of Canadians Ottawa Chapter and Sierra Club Canada

Staged reading by Bear & Co.

There has been an accident at a nearby nuclear plant. In the recovery, three retired nuclear physicists and long time friends confront an impossible question: What is the cost of love? A staged reading by outstanding actors from Ottawa’s Bear & Co., followed by an audience discussion and reception.

Forum: Canada’s Nuclear Future – Renaissance or Relic?

Join us for a public forum hosted by Seniors for Climate Action Now!  Over the last four years, federal and provincial governments across the country have given more than a billion dollars to new small (and large) nuclear reactor projects. Is this a wise use of tax dollars? How do renewables compare in price, safety and security, and are they up to the task of meeting all of Canada’s future electricity needs?  Event details and list of speakers here.
