Water Drops delivery to Parliament Hill in Ottawa 2022

Ottawa: Water Drops Delivery on Parliament Hill

Thousands of elementary school students from across Canada have prepared “Water Drop” messages to Prime Minister Trudeau. These are hand-written notes and drawings asking that he finally put an end to drinking water advisories on First Nations reserves. The messages are searing, frank, and moving.

On Tuesday, June 20th at 4 p.m. we will display them next to Parliament Hill and then deliver them to the Prime Minister’s office. Please come and join us! Feel free to bring along any children in your life that would like to participate. They can create their own message to the Prime Minister by downloading and printing our Water Drop template here.

We will also have some blank Water Drops available for kids to fill in just before we deliver them.

We will be taking photographs of the display and recording short videos of any children that wish to read out their message to the Prime Minister, for posting to our website and social media pages.

WHERE: Meeting on the south-west corner of Wellington and Metcalfe.
WHEN: 4 p.m. EST on Tuesday, June 20th

After decades of neglecting the deplorable quality of drinking water on First Nations reserves, the federal government has recently made some progress on this issue – but only thanks to constant pressure from civil society. The messages from these children will help keep up the pressure on the Trudeau government to resolve the remaining 27 drinking water advisories on First Nations reserves. Visit our website for more information.

We thank all our supporters who have, for years, helped us in advocating for the right of First Nations to have the sovereignty, resources, and tools they need to ensure their communities have access to safe drinking water on reserves.

We hope to see you on Tuesday.
