Northern Pulp’s mill near Pictou has been dumping untreated effluent into Boat Harbour for decades. Now, there is a plan to pipe treated effluent, which still contains many hazardous substances, directly into the Northumberland Strait instead – right into the area’s prime lobster fishing grounds.
This is not what we had in mind when the provincial government promised to clean up Boat Harbour by 2020. Join us on July 6 to rally against this effluent pipeline.
The proposed effluent pipeline has yet to be assessed or approved, so together we have an opportunity to influence the future of this proposal. This family-friendly rally is shaping up to be an enormous display of public outrage over the effluent pipe plan, and is sure to have an impact on poitical decision making. Will you join in?
Rally by Land and Sea
Come by land or by sea, but don't miss this event! A clean and healthy Northumberland Strait ties together small coastal communities in three provinces and provides livelihoods and enjoyment for us all, and we all need to protect it.
See you on July 6! Please be sure to bring signs and your family and friends!
