It’s a fact that climate change made this summer harder for people across the country living through floods, fires and heatwaves.
It’s also a fact that greening our electricity grid can stop climate change from getting even worse. Strong regulations will also make electricity more affordable as we transition away from fossil fuels.
Last year, the federal government released the first draft of its long-awaited regulations on clean electricity. Many of you joined us in demanding that the government strengthen those regulations to close the loopholes that allowed for fossil-fueled electricity generation to continue.
In the coming weeks, Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault is expected to release the final version of the government’s Clean Electricity Regulations – and he will be facing an uphill battle. Big Oil and conservative premiers are continuing to push the federal government to include loopholes that will make it impossible to lower our emissions.
Now is the time for us to put pressure on the federal government to stick to their promises and keep fossil fuels out of our electricity grid.
On September 17th, join the Council of Canadians and Environmental Defence for a 1-hour phone zap to remind Minister Guilbeault and cabinet to make decisions that benefit us and the planet, not oil and gas CEOs.
Together, we’ll call cabinet ministers and demand strong Clean Electricity Regulations. All you’ll need is a phone, and a way to join the zoom call. We’ll provide the rest, including tech support, training, a script, and a calling tool.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
