Energy East pipeline to be challenged at town hall in Ottawa on Tuesday

WHAT: A town hall on the threat to water from the Energy East tar sands pipeline

WHO: The town hall will take the form of a panel presentation followed by a question period. It will be moderated by the Executive Director of Ecology Ottawa, Graham Saul. Panelists will include:

  • Verna McGregor, Algonquin from Kitigan Zibi
  • Erica Violet Lee, Indigenous feminist and community organizer
  • Maude Barlow, National Chairperson of the Council of Canadians
  • Daniel Cayley-Daoust, Energy and Climate Justice Campaigner with the Council of Canadians

WHEN: Tuesday, October 11 at 6:30-8:30 p.m.

WHERE: Ottawa Public Library Main Branch Auditorium, 120 Metcalfe Street, Basement.

WHY: A spill from the proposed Energy East pipeline could have catastrophic impacts on the Rideau, Mississippi and Ottawa rivers, and put the region’s drinking water at risk. These are the findings of a new report by the independent Montreal-based technical firm Savaria Experts-Conseils Inc.
