Press conference to highlight growing opposition to fracking and extreme energy

WHAT: On Friday morning, a press conference will discuss the implications for Saskatchewan of the growing opposition to fracking and extreme energy across Canada and internationally.

WHO:

  • Maude Barlow, National Chairperson of the Council of Canadians and author of the new bestselling book Blue Future: Protecting Water for People and the Planet Forever
  • Josh Fox, Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker, environmental activist, and director of Gasland and Gasland II
  • Lois Frank, a member of the Blood Reserve in southern Alberta who was arrested protesting fracking two years ago (the charges were later stayed), a Lecturer/Researcher in the Native American Studies Department at the University of Lethbridge, and a board member of the Council of Canadians
  • Larry Hubich, president of the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour

Barlow, Fox, Frank and Hubich will also be speaking at the upcoming Groundswell: Grassroots Power in the Age of Extreme Energy, taking place in Saskatoon this weekend.
