VIDEO: Secwepemc opposition to Ruddock Creek lead-zinc mine

Secwepemc land defenders are opposed to a Vancouver-based Selkirk Metals/ Imperial Metals lead-zinc mine at Ruddock Creek, about 150 kilometres northeast of Kamloops, in south-central British Columbia. They are concerned about the mine contaminating the headwaters of the Adams, Columbia and Thompson rivers. CBC has reported, "The proposed project is located within or near the traditional territory of the Simpcw First Nation, the Adams Lake band, the Little Shuswap band and the Neskonlith band."

Council of Canadians organizer Harjap Grewal notes, "The territories are unceded, unsurrendered Indigenous lands and the company does not have consent to do work in the area. The Addams River is home to one of the largest salmon runs in the world and industry is threatening the watershed."
