Evidence filed in the Federal Court today includes detailed accounts from voters targeted by fraudulent or harassing calls intended to discourage them from voting in 56 ridings across Ontario, BC, Alberta, Manitoba, and Quebec (the ridings are listed below), likely in violation of the Canada Elections Act.  The evidence includes voters in three of the six ridings where applicants are seeking to overturn the results in a court action that will be heard beginning December 10.

Ottawa – The Council of Canadians says the federal budget outlines a plan to deliberately undermine health care, water, and the climate.

“Budget 2012 continues the Harper government’s full on attack on environmental protection and a sustainable energy future,” says Andrea Harden-Donahue, Energy and Climate Justice Campaigner for the Council of Canadians. “There is no money towards ‘no brainer’ investments like energy efficiency and renewable energy, plenty of money to subsidize the tar sands and a slashing and burning of environmental assessments.”

Ottawa – The Council of Canadians and MiningWatch Canada have made public a report drafted by Environment Canada in December 2007 revealing that the agency had documented crucial information regarding the looming freshwater crisis in Canada.

The report, titled “A Federal Perspective on Water Quantity Issues,” which was obtained through an Access To Information request warns "there may be heightened risk for jurisdictional conflict for water allocation between provinces and also between Canada and the United States."
