In July 2021 Pieridae Energy, the company behind Goldboro LNG, announced that they would not be continuing to pursue the project. This project would have introduced new safety risks to Mi’kmaq communities and increased Nova Scotia’s emissions significantly, and locked in decades of fossil fuel extraction and use at a time when we need to shift to a zero-carbon energy system.
Climate justice and Indigenous sovereignty movements across Canada and Europe made it possible to say goodbye to Goldboro LNG, and we took some time to celebrate the power of our movements and the hard work that led to this moment. This is a recording of a meeting where organizers and activists from across movements got together to reflect on this success, and to celebrate.
**we started recording a few minutes into the meeting – apologies for the abrupt start!
