Barlow defends public health care in Sault Ste. Marie

The Council of Canadians and the Canadian Union of Public Employees hosted a town hall meeting on public health care tonight in Sault Ste. Marie. The gathering featured Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow, CUPE president Paul Moist, and Cathy Syrette, the executive director of the Sault Ste. Marie Indian Friendship Centre.

This evening Barlow tweeted, “Packed crowd at the Sault St Marie town hall on health care. People are passionate about Medicare!!!”

And Council of Canadians Board member Pam Beattie tweeted, “@MaudeBarlow: health care has to be the major issue in 2015 election.” She also tweeted, “Harper government is the best thing to happen to corps says Maude But we can stop him” and “@MaudeBarlow: Let’s be angry and let’s not lose this beautiful social program.”

To date, there have also been successful CUPE-Council of Canadians town hall meetings in Winnipeg (April 17), Moncton (April 23), Bridgewater (April 29), Regina (June 23), North Bay (June 24), Charlottetown (August 26) and Oshawa (September 4).
