The Council of Canadians South Shore chapter screened the documentary Water on the Table on World Water Day in Mahone Bay.
The chapter tells us, “More than 50 people came out to watch the film. The evening opened with a member of the local Mi’kmaq community welcoming everyone to unceded Mi’kmaq territory. During the break, participants had a chance to take part in a water taste test (town water, rural well water, bottled water), make a tap water pledge, pick up a chart to track home water usage, and check out displays from Council of Canadians, CUPE and CPONS (Campaign to Protect Offshore Nova Scotia).”
The chapter adds, “The South Shore Raging Grannies brought everyone back into the room with three songs (including What Shall We Do With Nestle Water?). The evening concluded with a spirited and wide-ranging discussion. Topics included water as a human right, Canada’s global responsibility, a critique of Nestle’s corporate agenda, and how to engage young people in this important topic.”

Atlantic – Kent County, Saint John, South Shore
Those actions included: film screenings, a cross-border rally, presenting to municipal councils to become a blue community, organizing a provincial all-candidates meeting, taking a group-selfie in front of a local river, holding public forums, tabling, holding discussions, organizing a tap water versus bottled water taste test, and more.
Chapters have also been photographing Nestle bottled water labels across the country to show how far bottled water is trucked outside of the watershed where it was extracted. Details on what they discovered coming soon!
