The Council of Canadians Sudbury chapter screened the film This Changes Everything last night.
Chapter activist Glenn Murray tells us, “We had an estimated 200 person audience.”
The Sudbury Star had previously reported, “The event is hosted by The Council of Canadians (National), The Council of Canadians (Sudbury Chapter), Laurentian University School of the Environment and Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury, in association with Sudbury Indie Cinema. …Elaine Porter, a member of the Sudbury Chapter of the Council of Canadians, said the group is happy to bring ‘This Changes Everything’ to the city.”
Porter adds, “We see the impact of climate change in our own community, in the form of increased storms and flooding, the growth and spreading of invasive species, in the arrival of Lyme disease, and in shorter snow seasons. We see the impact around the world. And, we see a growing need and desire for a better world where we care for each other and for our Earth. We are thrilled to be bringing this film to Sudbury, on the territory of the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek First Nation.”
Other upcoming screenings include Golden (Nov. 29), Regina (Nov. 29), Hinton (Nov. 30), Picton (Dec. 5), London (Dec. 7) and at the ReFrame Film Festival in Peterborough (Jan. 29-31). To date, more than 2,610 people have gone to chapter-organized screenings in Montreal, Saskatoon, Duncan, Elora, Charlottetown, Yellowknife, Prince Albert, Chilliwack, Ladner, Mabou, Windsor, Courtenay, Saint John, St. John’s and now Sudbury.
The Leap manifesto is a 15-demand political initiative associated with the film. Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow will be participating in a Leap manifesto workshop in Paris on December 2 alongside Naomi Klein.
