Council of Canadians to launch 10-city election town hall tour

As the October 19, 2015 federal election looms, the Council of Canadians will be in communities across Canada encouraging people to ‘Go vote!’. We will hold town hall meetings, campus-based events, distribute thousands of Voter’s Guides and give people the tools and information they need to inspire democratic participation in their communities.

The town hall meetings we have been planning start one week from today!

We gratefully acknowledge the support from the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Unifor and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) which made these town hall meetings possible.

Prior to these public forums, we also held campus-based youth vote events at the University of Winnipeg (February 25-26), the University of Regina (March 5-6), Simon Fraser University in Burnaby (March 23-24), Ryerson University in Toronto (March 23-24) and Nipissing University in North Bay (March 30-31). On April 26, we’ll also be holding a youth-focused forum in Mahone Bay. Come September, we’ll be visiting more universities (look for that schedule soon).

Our goal with this youth outreach, these town hall meetings, voters guide and other interventions is for Canadians to elect a government committed to fair trade deals, strengthened public health care, clean water for everyone, and strong environmental stewardship.
