The Council of Canadians is working with the Sierra Club of Canada, Eau Secours, and Wellington Water Waters to raise awareness regarding planned cuts to the Canada Water Agency.
The Canada Water Agency was formally launched in 2023 after years of preparation, planning and community feedback. It’s mandate includes freshwater initiatives, gathering data around water issues, and supporting Indigenous Nations and communities around freshwater policy.
Text message leaked to journalists show that 80% cuts are expected, leaving a significant doubt in the Agency having the resources to fulfill its mandate.
The Council of Canadians has started a letter campaign to inform the Minister Julie Dabrusin and Prime Minister Mark Carney on this issue.
