Big Oil Profits, We Pay: Tax Their Billions
While you’re paying more at the pump, Big Oil is exploiting the US and Israel’s illegal assault on Iran to rake in record profits with no remorse. According to the CCPA, “the Canadian oil industry is on track for $90 billion in profits, which is $60 billion more than it would have earned without the war.”
Tell the Carney government to tax the billions that Big Oil is taking from our pockets and stop their war profiteering.
We’re calling for the immediate implementation of a 75% tax on the excess profits of fossil fuel companies. This decisive action serves our families and our communities at a time when the cost-of-living crisis is spiralling out of control by raising $46 billion to fund:
- Direct relief to households struggling the most under the current oil price shock
- Support for renewable energy projects, public transit, and affordable green housing
- Federal funding for an East-West Grid that brings affordable, renewable energy to all
Pausing the sales tax on gas is a band-aid solution that defunds our public services while letting Big Oil shareholders pocket billions.
