Equinor Bay du Nord

Tell Equinor we don’t want their deepwater Bay du Nord project

Last week, Council of Canadians chapters, along with friends on both sides of the Atlantic, spoke up against Bay du Nord, a deepwater offshore drilling project in the Flemish Pass, to the east of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Canadian government approved the project last month, just two days after the latest report from the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) warned that we need rapid, deeper cuts to fossil fuel projects and the UN Secretary General called funding new fossil fuel projects “moral and economic madness.”

Last Wednesday, Equinor, the parent company behind the project, had their AGM in Stavanger, Norway, and we made sure that shareholders and executives heard that we don’t want this project to proceed.

Join us in telling Equinor executives and Norwegian politicians that we want a just transition, not more fossil fuels.
