New Year’s Resolution: Flood Parliament for a Just Transition

Because of the passion and hard work of thousands of people across the country, Minister Wilkinson just confirmed that the government is set to introduce just transition legislation sometime early in 2023!

This shows that our campaign is working, and we can’t let up yet. It’s time to ramp up the pressure on the federal government to make sure that just transition legislation presents a transformative and just vision of how to address the climate crisis, led by workers and impacted communities.

Join us in Flooding Parliament for a just transition! All it takes is collecting 25 petition signatures and meeting with your MP. Find resources and more information at our Just Transition page!

You are also invited to join our “Flood Parliament for a Just Transition!” action event to learn more about the campaign and political context, hear from experienced organizers, and receive resources that will support your work for strong just transition legislation.

Over the course of the last year, thousands of people from hundreds of communities have sent letters to the federal government, talked to their neighbours, collected petition signatures, met with their MPs, and got them to present the just transition petition in the House of Commons.

But our work is not over. We know that just transition legislation must transform the ways that we relate to each other and to the planet. We look forward to continuing to work with you to ensure that our decision-makers understand this too!

If you’ve already gathered petition signatures and met with your MP, there are important ways for you to continue to up the pressure for strong just transition legislation – the Council of Canadians climate team will be in touch! You can also get in touch with us at greennewdeal@canadians.org.
