Stop the Cuts! A People’s Assembly

On November 4th, the federal government dropped a budget that looks to devastate health services, education and climate action, weaken public services and deliver billions in subsidies, weapons contracts and tax cuts to corporations and the wealthy.

These cuts will affect all of us. The cuts are going to hit the Ottawa region particularly hard, with almost half of the anticipated 40,000 jobs lost occurring in the capital region. Coming from a Liberal government that just months ago promised to protect our public services and to “cap, not cut” public sector jobs, many are feeling betrayed. But together, we can fight back.

for the event page, we should replace the last para with this:

This Friday, November 14 at 6pm the Council of Canadians is hosting a “Stop the Cuts!” Assembly, featuring David Macdonald (Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives), Karen Cocq (Migrant Workers Alliance for Change), Nathan Prier (Canadian Association of Professional Employees), and other guests. At this event, we’ll analyze the budget and the forces driving the austerity agenda, and build strategies to resist this corporate agenda.

Join us in laying the groundwork for a popular response against this repressive, corporate agenda.
