Leading up to the Sinking the Harper Agenda conference and our Annual General Meeting in Nanaimo, I’
m currently in Vancouver meeting with local officials and allies.
Yesterday Trade Campaigner Stuart Trew and I met with Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan. Burnaby was Canada’s first Blue Community. We discussed the importance of community/local control of water services and keeping water services in public hands. He stressed concerns about the proposed Public-Private Partnership (P3) for a biofuel facility.
We discussed the potential for water privatization under the Canada-Europe Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, the Canada-China Foreign Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement and other trade issues.
I also met with Burnaby Councillor Sav Dhaliwal about water issues.
More to come.
