Airport Privatization Won’t Fly: Say No to Selling Off Our Airports

Higher airline ticket prices. Massive job cuts. Eroding safety standards. That’s what airport privatization has meant for travellers and workers everywhere it’s been tried.

Despite this dismal track record, the federal government is planning to sell off Canada’s four largest airports – Toronto (YYZ), Montreal (YUL), Vancouver (YVR) and Calgary (YYG) – to private investors.

Selling off our airports and other vital public infrastructure won’t help us stand up to Trump. All it will do is make a handful of global financial players even richer – including U.S.-based, Trump-supporting firms like BlackRock and Blackstone.

We have to stop this privatization push now before it goes further. If we don’t, airports may be just the start of a broader sell-off of public infrastructure, with seaports and hydro dams, highways and bridges, power grids and water treatment plants next on the auction block. Whatever happened to “Canada is not for sale”?

Send a letter to Transport Minister Steve Mackinnon, Prime Minister Mark Carney and your MP to send a clear message: airport privatization won’t fly.
