The Mining Justice Alliance will be holding a protest outside the Vancouver-based Pacific Rim office tomorrow (Dec. 17) at noon hour. They will be demanding that Pacific Rim drop their US-Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) challenge against El Salvador. Council of Canadians chairperson Maude Barlow stated at the ‘Shout Out Against Mining Injustice’ conference this past June, “Using a trade agreement, Vancouver-based Pacific Rim is now suing the government of El Salvador for refusing to grant the company a license for a gold mine that would have polluted 10,000 litres of water a day.” If you can, please join this protest at 625 Howe Street (at Dunsmuir) in Vancouver. The ‘Drop the Suit’ action will involve people wearing business suits and then taking off or ‘dropping’ their suits.
