AUDIO: Lui, Calzavara visit Owen Sound to oppose Great Lakes shipments

Sharen Skelly of CARGOS, Lui, David Walton of the Grey-Bruce chapter

Bayshore Broadcasting reports that, “Members of the Council of Canadians are in Grey Bruce today to voice their opposition to Bruce Power’s steam generator plan. National water campaigner Emma Lui and regional organizer Mark Calzavara are meeting with various community stakeholders. They are stopping outside the Bruce Power site first, and this afternoon are meeting in Owen Sound with local opponents of the plan including the group CARGOS.”

“Bruce Power wants to ship the 16 steam generators — each the size of a school bus — from its Tiverton plant to Sweden, through the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence. …Lui feels there has been a lack of public consultation on the plan. She is concerned about the precedent it sets for shipments of radioactive material on the Great Lakes and the group wants a new environmental assessment.”
